How Kenyan Societies Blends Amino Acids

A diet of maize and beans provides adequate amounts of the essential amino acids. For maize and wheat are deficient in the essential amino acid lysine but are rich in most of the others. Beans and other legumes are rich in lysine but deficient in methionine. It appears that most Kenyan societies may have learnt this through trial and error.

Lysine is an essential amino acid that is crucial for protein synthesis, calcium absorption, and hormones. Whilst, methionine is an essential, sulfur containing amino acid that is a building block for proteins and vital for many metabolic processes.

Avocado Proteins : I further supplement my diet of maize and beans with avocado. Avocados are among the most protein-rich of fresh fruits, which, depending on variety, can reach 2% of their weight. They contain all of the essential amino acids, although their proportion is not optimal, as is usually the case with plant-based foods with the exception of soy. In spite of this, avocado proteins are of great value, as much for their amount as for their quality.
