When receiving the first batch of Covid-19 vaccines on Tuesday, March 2, 2021. The Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for health Mr Mutahi Kagwe announced that phase 1 will target front-line health care givers. To my mind as paramedic; this portends.
That health care-associated infection [HAI] or nosocomial is priority before herd-immunity.
Nosocomial: An infection that was acquired in a health care facility by a health care user, Health Care Worker [HCW], or a visitor-that is, the infection was neither present nor incubating at the time the person made initial contact with the facility. Occupational infections among staff of the health facility are also considered HAIs, hence 400,000 health workers will be first recipient of the first batch.
But developed countries are aiming to achieve herd-immunity by vaccinating large population, thus hoarding the Covid-19 vaccines.
