The Covenant of Circumcision and STIs Prevention

Circumcision in men may reduce their susceptibility to sexually transmitted infections [STIs], including HIV infections and Human papillomavirus [HPV] for several reasons :

-Certain cells [Langerhan’s cells] which are present in large numbers under the foreskin, but not elsewhere along the penis and urethra, are very susceptible to uptake by HIV.

-Minor inflammation under the foreskin [called balanitis] is common, and this inflammation on the surface of the penis may increase susceptibility to STI.

-The thin of the foreskin may develop small scratches or abrasions during sexual intercourse, increasing susceptibility to STI.

In addition, male circumcision is associated with lower prevalence and incidence of Human Papillomavirus [HPV] in men, particularly by increasing the clearance rate of the virus on the glans penis.

Genesis 17 : 10 ; “This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep : Every male among you shall be circumcised.”
