My own understanding about leadership is that; leadership is the ability to influence the behavior and actions of other in a given situation in a society to work towards achieving a common goal under laid down rules and regulations.
Having this definition, empirically and my own intuition. I have come up with the following classification of leaderships:
Cultural leader
Professional leader
Natural Leader
Cultural leader is a native who inherit leadership and governs under common law premised in customary tribal practices. A good example is England’s Queen Elizabeth.
Professional leader is trained person who heads same professional department. Example is Chief Justice who heads judiciary and must be a lawyer, or, another example is headteacher who must also a trained teacher.
Natural leader is a person who attains leadership through popular votes to heads a country, constituency or ward. Here am referring to a politician. Why do I call him/her a natural leader or who is a politician? A politician in my view: is a person who naturally conceptualizes an idea and formulate a manifesto and policies to solve a communal problem which results to development. Or why do you think or democratic elected presidents becomes Commander-in Chief regardless whether he or she is a trained soldier.
