To start with ; the late Masinde Muliro of Baluhya Political Union was first Secretary-General of Kenya Africa Democratic Union [KADU] and the late former President Moi was it deputy leader. The party [KADU] was formed to champion the rights of minority from presumed dominance of Kenya National Union [KANU] party dominated by major tribes kikuyu and luos at advent of Kenya independence.
After political pressures, Moi repealed section 2A of the Constitution, allowing multiparty politics. Out of that, reemergence of KANU like formidable forces of the late Kenneth Matiba, Jaramogi Odinga Odinga, joined forces in a bid to unseat Moi in the December 29, 1992, election.
To counter those forces. I opine that why Moi brought in the late statute businessman, the late Cyrus Jirongo for both financial and political mobilization since obviously businessmen from central were financing the other forces. And in hindsight Moi rekindled KADU spirit and won since Jirongo hailed from the late Masinde Muliro background.
RIP Cyrus Jirongo
