In 1932 Franklin D. Roosevelt became President of the United States of America. It was the worst time of the Depression; the country had never been a worse state. Roosevelt introduced the the ‘New Deal’. Even before his election he had promised, ‘I pledge you, I pledge myself, to a New Deal for the America people’. The words New Deal caught on immediately.

Although the New Deal laws to end the Depression were spread over many years, Roosevelt began with emergency action. For one hundred days, from 8 March to June 1933, hence the advent of ‘Hundred Days’ slogan.

The New Deal was based on three principles fairly new to American governments. First, they offered men jobs instead of charity.; On this, Azimio manifesto states of reviving ‘kazi kwa vijana’ coupled with waiving of licensing fees for youth-owned businesses and a seven-year tax moratorium.
