Date Uhuru Shuffled DP’s Clause

When I did reverse maths, then President Uhuru Kenyatta casually but critically replaced his DP William Ruto constitutional function with former premier Raila Odinga, on October 12, 2020, going with his [Uhuru] off cuff speech during the 57th Jamhuri Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi, on December 12, 2021.

Article 147. [1] The Deputy President shall be the principal assistant of the President and shall deputise for the President in the execution of the President’s functions.

However, President Uhuru Kenyatta seems to have snatched this article from DP Ruto, and placed to Raila, if the following comment by him [Uhuru].

“We have been in communication for close to 14 months with Hon Raila Odinga when I started this project of Uhuru Gardens. We have been here with him as he offered me advice and we thank him for what he has helped us achieve.” commented President Uhuru Kenyatta.

On his response, which affirmed these comment, Raila revealed how he advised the President to do benchmarking in Namibia.

Well, why October 2020? The US general elections was just at the corner, and the incumbent President Trump win was clearly slim. And in hindsight, Trump’s foreign policy played a key role of Raila agreeing into handshake. So, Uhuru was keen to then keep Raila close before it was too late in my view. But lucky for Uhuru, Biden administration have retained most of Trump’s foreign policies.
