A job reference can quantify to your skills, education, work experience and other qualifications, boosting your chances of securing a successful job interview.
There are three types of references, including ; Work references, Academic references and Character references. Dr Oburu Odinga got or secured Orange Democratic Movement [ODM] leadership job through character reference by Mama Ida Odinga in my view. I base my view on 14th paragraph excerpt of Mama Ida’ tribute on late husband, Right Honorable Raila Amolo-Odinga :
“Raila would not do anything without consulting with Dr. Oburu and if you wanted to know more and you wanted to get to know what he’s going to do, you had, if you are clever, you talk to Dr. Oburu first to talk to him so that he softened the way for you to talk to him.”
And these was tie-breaker of who was the late Right Honorable Raila Odinga’s most trusted political confidant cum consultant, particularly between his elder brother Dr. Oburu and youngest daughter Winnie Odinga. And out of Mama Ida’s revelation, Dr. Oburu got the ODM leadership job in my view.
Character references : If you have no work experiences or academics references, character references are a suitable alternative to them. People who can be your character or personal reference include those you share hobbies or interest with, your landlord or neighbors, long-time friends, community leaders and supervisors at volunteers agencies. Choose character references who know you well enough to confirm your good qualities, including integrity, reliability and kindness without biasness like Mama Ida who bypassed her own daughter for endorsement.
