Quadrennial Olympic Games started in Greece. The Greeks loved games and athletic contests. Every town had a gymnasium and a running-track.
The most famous Games were held at Olympia in honor of Zeus chief god who they believed lived on Mount Olympus together with unruly family ; Apollo, Hermes, Athena, Poseidon and many others. The cities sent their best athletes to compete in horse and chariot races, in running contests, wrestling, jumping and throwing the discus and javelin.
Socrates one of famous Greeks’ ancient great thinker made people think by asking hard questions. He was put to death because he was accused of mocking the gods who games were made to honor.
