Raila-Karua, A ‘Damascus’ or Patriotism

I was in college library, in 1992, going through the then day’s newspapers and one sub-headline in one dailies caught my eyes. Americans in Panic. And this why they were in panic:

Their then president, George Herbert Walker Bush, had collapsed and taken ill at a dinner given for him at home of the Japanese Prime Minister Kiichi Miyazawa. Ironically or interestingly, the panic was not due to taken ill president; but perceived weak Vice President Dan Quayle who could have taken over for reminder of the term. The worry was that, America was in intensive and delicate time of Cold War and wondered whether the weak president would navigate them through the turbulence securely. This infuriated America’s so much and costed second term, hence became one term president despite triumph from Cold War.

So, for Raila Odinga appointing a person regarded as an Iron Lady in person of Martha Karua is a sign of patriotism as same depicting biblical Saul to Paul [Damascus] given she was his main antagonist in infamous 2007 general election as documented by the late Tanzanian President Benjamin Mkapa.

In furtherance of Raila’s ‘Damascus’. He has let go Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s chairperson Wafula Chebukati. Given how he unleashed his [Raila] peripheral influence, and dislodged Samuel Kivuitu of defunct Electoral Commission of Kenya [ECK] and Ahmed Isaack Hassan former chairman of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission [IEBC] respectively, a predecessor to Wafula Chebukati.
