After being diagnosed with diabetes on 10/5/2021, at Pope Benedict XVI Hospital, Nyahururu, Laikipia County, as evidenced by lab results above. The Doctor put me on three drugs regiments, and an interval of three weeks clinic.
In the same vein, nutritionist also advised on whole-grains carbs; low glycemic fruits, vegetable oils, vegetables, and proteins with limited lean meat at least 250 g spread per week.
But, being a trained Public Health Officer, I applied nutrition knowledge ingenuity within nutritionist advise and what I also learnt in medical college as follows:
Break-first: 20 grams of brown bread with two cups of sugarless milk tea followed with equally two cups of tap piped water after 45 minutes. Why tap water instead of bottled water? Well, to me, bottled water is a solutes, while tap water is a solvent I need to dissolve by products not needed by body not mention excess glucose.
Snacks; Cucumber. Courgette, and Raw asparagus.
Lunch: Starter: thorn-melon, and courgette for deserts, while main lunch; whole-grain cereals coupled with salt-less raw cabbage with 250 g of liver a week.
Dinner: Starter; avocado with courgette for deserts, while main dinner; whole-grains cereals coupled with salt-less raw cabbage with a minimum of three portions of legumes a week.
And as a matter of fact, after adhering to the above dietary recipes. I was discharged from diabetes meritus clinic at Pope Benedict XVI Hospital, off the drugs on August 6, 2021, for my random blood sugar tests were and are averaging 4.5 to 5.5 mmol/l, a median of reference range of 3.0-10.0 mmol/l.
Postscript: Cabbage in my above diet, includes; cauliflower, broccoli, brussels sprout, savoy cabbagge, collard, white cabbage, red cabbage , and kohlrabi.
